Hannah and the Tri-County Fire Corps

Hello, my name is Hannah.  I am currently enrolled at Metro Community College working towards a Fire Science degree.

About two years ago I took a career academy through MCC for Fire Science.  During the academy I learned about the Tri-County Fire Explorers program.  My instructors at MCC told me being involved in the program was a great opportunity.  At that time I did not know for sure if I wanted to be a firefighter.  I knew the program would allow me to get my foot in the door and I knew I would learn a lot.

I signed up for the Tri-County Fire Corp Explorers program and I am so glad I did!  My favorite part of the program was getting to go to many different fire stations and seeing how they were run.  Each week we learned something new and it furthered my knowledge about what it means to be a firefighter.  My favorite day in the program was the week we got to destroy a car with the different tools that are used in firefighting.  Graduation day was also fun.  A car was set on fire and we learned how to put it out!

This program has been beneficial to me in many ways.  When I took the class, Firefighter 1 at MCC, I already had a general knowledge of most of the things that were taught in class.  That was very helpful. It also helped me decide to pursue my career as a firefighter.

I would highly recommend this program to others, especially someone that wants to be in the fire career field.  It is such a great opportunity and I am so glad that I chose to participate in the program.  The time that I put into the program and the knowledge that I gained from the experience is something that I will never forget.  H.S.

Tri-County Fire CorpsThe Tri-County Fire Corp Explorers program will be held again in the spring of 2021.  Look for more information on dates coming in March 2021.  The program is for high school students between the ages of 16 and 19 years.
